Useful tip for working with SQL Server and Foxfire!

By default, Foxfire! turns the Display Warnings off for Remote databases. As a result, when you run a statement that isn't quite right, nothing appears on the screen and you might be left scratching your head.

So go to Edit Preferences, click on Remote (or ODBC in earlier versions), and check the box to Display Warnings.

Now if your SQL doesn't work right, it will display a warning so you can see what the problem is.

Foxfire! Build 366

A variety of updates for robustness and some UI changes. Download the full install from http://www.foxfirereporting.com/livedesign/ff80setup.exe or the zip update from http://www.foxfirereporting.com/livedesign/ff80366.zip.

If you receive errors with the zip update, please download the full install as we have been making some modifications to some of the file structures.

Also, be sure to attend some of our beta previews in the coming weeks (listed on the left) to tell us what you think!

Summary of Major Changes

Request Manager
Now respects user privileges. We've included FF80USER.EXE as a way of logging in with "less" privileges. Try the user name "Designer" for an example.

Request Editor
A variety of updates to manage resizing better.
FF! now remembers your last positions of all the windows and restores them.

The Filter tab has been cleaned up so it doesn't crash as often.
Some duplicate shortcuts have also been removed and respects user privileges better.

Excel Chart options have been reset so you can now turn the legend on or off, add axis titles and add trendlines.

The problem where the report would no longer display properly after exporting to Excel has been corrected.

Fixes have been made to when viewing the Relationship diagram and revision Relationships.

Tools / System Admin

Some fixes have been made to better support DBCX in the Setup Wizard. There were some issues with supporting views that should be resolved. This is still undergoing testing but it shouldn't crash as much as it has in the past.

Foxfire! 8.0 Build 364

Download the update from here or the full install from here.

This builder includes a number of updates:

1. Fix for bug where new Requests were not being saved with proper name
2. Error that would occur when creating a brand new data item
3. Escape now works to close out most of the screens that only have one button on them
4. Hitting Edit Full Definition now goes to the correct data item.
5. The entire set of comments now show in the Preview area. See the sample request PROF_ANL for an example of why you may not want to overload your comments.
6. The Right-click on the AutoSum now pulls up the same options as when you right-click in the group footer
7. When you right-click on a column header, you now have the same options as when you right-click on a data item.
8. Removed duplicate Alt+ shortcuts in the Filter and Sort/Group tabs
9. Changed the name of the Related Data button in the Filter tab to say Expand Search, which should make it more meaningful for end users.
10. The Email Separate and Send option now only works for Data Items that are marked as being Email Data Items. A future update will show how you can set this in the Data Dictionary. This will make it easier for you to use the new Separate and Send feature to break apart reports on demand.

Note about creating requests in Build 363

There's a bug in Build 363 that I want to point out before posting a new build.

If you change the name of the Request, DOCK the Workbench first.

We made some performance enhancements and in doing so, the undocked workbench doesn't update the docked one, right away.

So to change the name or description on a report:
1. Dock the Workbench.
2. Change the Name and hit Save.

That will work properly then.

Foxfire! 8.0 Build 363: Beta Period Extended

If you tried to run Foxfire! 8.0 yesterday or today (Nov 1-2), sorry! You likely got a message saying "Beta Period Expired". No - unfortunately, we're still not out yet so please download the latest beta from here.

This update also has a fix for one of the FLLs causing problems on systems that don't have GDI+ installed.

How do you know if you're having that problem? You likely couldn't preview anything because you got a message about an invalid version of XFRXFLL.

Both the refresh and the full install have been updated.
